Giant Clam

This is the largest living bivalve — the Giant Clam, Tridacna gigas. The largest specimen in any museum was collected in Sumatra in 1817. It is 4¼ feet in length and can be seen in the Hall of Biodiversity at the American Museum of Natural Hostory in New York City. That shell alone weighs over 600 pounds!
