October 2008 – August 2009
We transformed the lobby of the Museum of the Earth into a temporary art studio. Artist-in-Residence John Gurche created three life-sized sculptures of our distant relatives Homo erectus, Homo neanderthalensis, and Homo heidelbergensis. Gurche’s work combined scientific accuracy with stunning realism and transported the viewer back to a time when these early hominins roamed the Earth.
This exhibition was generously supported by The Legacy Foundation of Tompkins County and the Community Arts Partnership.
