Between his graduation from Cornell University and his return to Ithaca as a CU professor, Gilbert Harris did important stratigraphic work for the U.S. Geological Survey in the Neogene of the Atlantic Coastal Plain. This manuscript was one of the results, but it lay unpublished in the files of the USGS for more than a century. Coastal Plain expert L. W. "Buck" Ward provides annotations and commentary on this facsimile reproduction that is not only charming but still scientifically useful.
