It makes me wonder what else I'm subsidizing that I'm not aware of.

This subsidy was probably created when people thought it was a public good to make sure new homes could have natural gas heating. But now we know that we need to move away from fossil fuels, and we should direct our efforts and money into cleaner energy. This is a good policy change.
